About Hen's Tooth
Hen’s Tooth began at my (Amy’s) allotment in a quiet corner of Bristol. Among spuds and wildflowers, I rediscovered the joy of slow days, muddy hands, and small, thoughtful treasures.
That potting‑shed daydream - “What if I could hang out here whenever I like?” - grew into Hen’s Tooth: a cosy, ever‑changing space for slow‑living homeware, garden pieces, and giftware.
Creativity has always been part of my life. I’ve sold artwork and crafts as Tom Cat Designs, published fiction as Amy C. Fitzjohn, and ran Learn To Love Your Words, helping others tell their stories.
Alongside that, I’ve spent over a decade supporting Bristol’s small businesses and communities as a mentor, trainer, and facilitator. Championing sustainability, creativity, and resilience.
Those years taught me that business can be purposeful and playful, and that success is measured in joy, connection, and impact.
I built this shop to be rooted in those values.
We’re committed to ethical sourcing and responsible retail. No mass‑produced tat. No landfill‑bound impulse buys. Hen's Tooth is an alternative to that.
We believe in buying less but buying well: choosing pieces that last, that matter, and that support small makers and local communities.
Many of our items are handmade, small‑batch, or one‑off, and our collections shift with the seasons and our travels.
And now I can proudly say we. My husband, and accidental business partner, Graham, has joined the adventure, helping shape Hen’s Tooth into something we can both be proud of.
Together, we curate pieces with care, celebrate slow living, and keep community at the heart of everything we do.
